The Law Offices of Fred B. Goldberg is a civil
litigation law firm dedicated to aggressively
representing clients who are physically injured by
others’ negligent acts or economically injured by
professional negligence such as medical, dental or
legal malpractice.
Since 1981 we have represented individuals and small
businesses before the courts of the District of
Columbia and throughout the State of Maryland. We
have also appeared in federal courts in the District
of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia and before
Appellate courts including D.C., Maryland, Federal
4th Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United
States of America.
We take our responsibility to our clients
seriously. We know that clients have a wide variety
of choices when they hire an attorney and when they
retain us they are placing their trust and
confidence in our ability and our judgment. We try
to place ourselves in the client’s shoes and offer
both advice and counsel with regard to our clients’
interests. We try to be both efficient and
responsive. We always return telephone calls and
emails within 24 hours. We also pride ourselves on
providing useful information to our clients as it is
obtained so clients are involved in decisions that
affect their cases. We try to help our clients to
decide when it is in their best interests to settle
a claim or go to trial.
Fred B. Goldberg is a graduate of the University of
Maryland and the John Marshall Law School of
Chicago. He began his career as a consumer advocate
with the National Consumer Law Center, a low-income
consumer advocacy group connected with Howard
University and funded through the Office of Economic
Opportunity. He worked as an Aid to Congressman
Benjamin S. Rosenthal of New York, arguably the
father of consumer protection in the US House of
Representatives. He worked as an Attorney-Advisor
to Esther Peterson, then Special Assistant for
Consumer Protection under President Jimmy Carter.
In that position, Fred B. Goldberg was responsible
for creating and establishing the Inter-Agency
Litigation Project, called by Ralph Nader, “the most
important thing that office has ever done.” After
the White House, Fred B. Goldberg served as General
Counsel to the District of Columbia Office of
Consumer Protection, where he was responsible for
the largest settlement in the history of that
office.
When he entered private practice of law, Fred B.
Goldberg continued working with state and national
consumer organizations. He was General Counsel to
the National Association of Statute Utility Consumer
Advocates, Special Counsel to AARP, and to the
Peoples Counsel of Maryland, Public Advocate of
Florida, and the New York State Consumer Protection
Board.
In 1989 when his first son was born, Fred B.
Goldberg opted to slow down his travel schedule and
transformed his practice into a local based practice
representing individuals and small businesses in
litigation aimed at restoring fundamental fairness
to transactions and obtaining compensation for
victims of negligence such as automobile accidents,
slips and falls, unsafe products and professional
negligence such as medical malpractice, dental
malpractice and legal malpractice. He has been
a member of
DC Trial Lawyers Association, DC Bar
Association, Maryland State Bar Association,
Montgomery County Bar Association, American
Association for Justice and the Brain Injury
Association.
His hobbies include ballet, horticulture, bicycle
riding and tennis.
